Angle of Repose
The term angle of repose refers to a geological phrase, meaning the steepest angle at which a granular material can be piled without slumping, indicating the point where the material is on the verge of sliding down the slope. The point where gravity pauses and form holds its breath.
My paintings aren’t meant to persuade or proclaim. I don’t have anything political statements to make with my work. There aren’t any hidden meanings. I don’t have any messages I want to share. Instead, they oer a place to linger. To slow down, to look and simply enjoy the view before life takes over again.

Lisa Daniel
Lisa Daniel is a Tacoma, WA-based painter known for her striking large-scale poured abstract paintings. Her work explores the interplay of color, texture, depth, and transparency, inviting viewers to engage deeply with each composition.
Lisa earned her Associate of Arts degree from Green River College in Auburn, WA, and studied art at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. As a second-generation artist, she was immersed in the world of art from a young age and was mentored by her father, an accomplished artist with whom she shared a studio for over a decade.
Lisa has exhibited primarily throughout the Pacific Northwest, and her work is held in both private and corporate collections across the United States and internationally.
”I create large, mixed-media abstract paintings by pouring, directing, and manipulating multiple layers of fluid acrylics, gels, paper, fabric, and other materials onto canvas. My work explores the dynamic interplay of color, texture, depth, and transparency, inviting viewers to get lost in the intricate details that emerge.
Each piece begins with a carefully considered composition and palette. My process is intentional and methodical—I lay multiple canvases on the floor and pour from above, guiding the flow of paint by tilting the surfaces and using wedges to control its movement. Layer by layer, the surface evolves, requiring both patience and precision.
The drying process, however, introduces an element of unpredictability. While waiting for layers to set can be the most challenging part, I’m often tempted to intervene, disrupting the paint mid-dry. These moments of spontaneity can transform the piece, creating unexpected textures and forms. It’s this delicate balance between control and chaos that keeps me searching—for that one moment when the surface becomes something truly captivating.”
