Anatomy of a Black Hole

These paintings come from the void—
a space where pressure pressed in,
and making became survival.

Sometimes forms revealed themselves;
sometimes I wrestled them from nothing.

They orbit loneliness and mania,
shadows of futures,
paranoia seeded in unseen economies—
but never collapse into one story.

Fragments, companions,
gestures of persistence,
where fracture and becoming coexist.

In their pull, I also trace the gravity of diaspora—
memory stretched across continents,
futures bent by displacement,
yet refusing to vanish into silence.

Layomi Akinrinade

Layomi Akinrinade is a Nigerian visual artist based in Seattle, WA. Working through instinctive abstraction, his paintings wrestle with perception, memory, and the desire for resolution. His photographic work captures cultural resilience, urban solitude, and the ways African youth—on the continent and in the diaspora—remix media and redefine global culture. Across both mediums, Layomi’s practice explores the shifting nature of identity, heritage, and futurity in a fragmented world.

CoCA ShowWalls is a show opportunity for CoCA Artist in partnership with local businesses.
