CoCA and 1-World Globes Maps: Call for Artists

Center on Contemporary Art and 1-World Globes & Maps announce a call for artists to re-envision The Map of the World

Seattle, Washington(December 10, 2016). Seattle’s Center on Contemporary Art (CoCA) in collaboration with 1-World Globes & Maps, announces a call for artists to create original works of art depicting the world map, re-envisioned in light of changing physical and political landscapes.  

A reproduction of the First Place artwork-map will be available for sale world-wide through 1-World’s on-line store. The First Place artist will also receive a $500 prize, a 20% royalty on all art-maps sold that depict the artist’s work, and retain the original artwork plus they will receive a full-size giclée print on archival paper.

The Second Place artist will win $250 US Dollars and a full-size giclée print on archival paper. Third Place artist will win $100 US Dollars and a full-size giclée print on archival paper. Up to five honorable mentions will also be awarded. These works will be depicted on CoCA and 1-World’s social media.

Application Instructions:

Interested artists must email their resume, contact information and website to: worldmap2017@cocaseattle.org  on or before March 15, 2017. Send up to two submissions per artist.  There is no fee for artist submissions. Finished artworks will remain the property of the artists.

Original artworks that re-envision The Map of the World may be created in any medium, however, images of art submissions must be in digital (2-dimensional) format for printing purposes. Any aspect ratio. 300 dpi resolution digital scans only. One side of art piece must be at least 24” long. Please email a digital image of your artwork meeting these specifications, or email  a link where we can access your art image meeting these specifications. No physical submissions or printed photographs will be accepted.  

Artwork will be selected based on artistic and conceptual merit. Selected artists will grant CoCA and 1-World permission to use physical and digital images of the artist's work in any publicity about this project as well as in historical portfolios (physical and digital).

The competition is open to artists worldwide. Winners will be chosen by CoCA curator, Joseph C. Roberts.  All entries must be submitted by 5PM Pacific Time on March 15, 2017.  Winners will be announced on both CoCA’s and 1-World’s social media on April 15, 2017.  Prize money will be mailed promptly thereafter.
