Carkeek Park Outdoor Art Exhibit: Heaven and Earth

Meredith Hall and Vaughn Bell

Carkeek Park is one of Seattle’s most intact landscapes. But like the most of North America, the park has been shaped by a history of colonization and settlement. The ecosystem of the park is now defined by the interactions between the native flora and fauna and aggressive non-native invaders. Through both participatory performances and sculpture, our piece will illuminate the park’s environmental condition by creating a colony of ephemeral sculptures using harvested invasive vines from the park.

The shelters invite social interaction from park visitors, while also serving as a formal site for a native plant adoption on opening day.
