Anette Lusher | This One
Box I traveled across the state, was lost in storage, contained musical equipment, neglected, forgotten, left alone, not looked at, kicked around, misused, frowned upon, dragged through the mud, misplaced, left outside, stepped on, sat on, used as table, was a cooler, held food, became a toy box, was totally important for transportation, stayed dirty, dragged through rain, scrubbed clean again, was locked up, held valuables, or just stuff, then stored away for good, but in the end..........I am always This One Box... |

Shirley Wiebe | Woven Metal
Sculpture The installation I envision for either site is a large woven sculpture formed from strips of galvanized expanded mesh (see image 1 for the proposal sketch, and images 2 - 6 for material and scale reference in a related work). The over-scale metallic form would appear as transported industrial or missile site relic, with a futuristic 'twilight zone' kind of glow. It also reference forms found in nature, such as a seed pod or exoskeleton... |

Miguel Edwards | Que Viva El Sol /
La Vida Del Sol With this piece, I hoped to capture the essence of the duality, with bold structure and geometry as well as gesture and negative space: mass expressing air. The arcs of a broken sphere deconstructed and reassembled to capture the diverse aspects of the sun has been an exciting challenge. In this piece I reference the suns impact on our very life as well as the role that inspiration and creativity play in mine... |

meadow starts with p | Cozy Homes
Cozy Homes is a series of modified plush animal toys intended to serve as dwelling sites for real animals. While some parts of the toys remain in tact, cavities have been created in the animals bodies, various decorations installed, and colorful yarn glued to the pelt to accommodate suspended or bound installation. Each Home can be adapted hang from or tie to almost anything, so site-specificity is not a concern... |

David Francis | EARTH SCREEN,
FAUX-ARCHAEOLOGY, and CRACKING MUD FLAT Both nature and history implicitly involve time -- the latter obviously more so than the former. By borrowing from archaeology and architecture, I try to create site-specific environments that offer temporal experiences. The work must be viewed repeatedly and on multiple occasions for full effect or to observe the changes wrought by weather, sunshine, and time... |

Shannon Durbin | Hanging Copper
Disks The materials for the piece would consist of polyester thread and small copper discs. The copper discs would be strung at uneven intervals along lengths of thread, so they dangle and are able to twist slightly on the thread. Multiple strands would be strung from the branches in various subtle locations along the path. These strands would be weighted some from the copper discs; however they will still be affected and stirred by the wind. When the strands come into contact with each other they will create a light tickling chime... |

Magdalena Hill | Walking
Cycle The idea of Walking Cycle is to use the site-specificity of Cougar Mountaina place of trails where one might walk to wander and ponderto stage an interactive video performance incorporating the visiting viewers during the opening which is subsequently put online as a video animation... |

Suzanne Tidwell | Dream
Pools My current project, Dream Pools it meant to represent the visualization of ideas bubbling to the surface of ones imagination. It is a long, narrow piece measuring 14feet by 2.5 feet. Secured at each narrow end by wooden dowels, it is meant to hang high above head in a sweeping horizontal canopy from the branches of two opposing trees. Royal blue and chartreuse oval shapes flow through an undulating striped field... |

david kitts | A Giant
Mailbox I've been passionate about building a massive mailbox with various developing themes and uses to it, e.g., giant crazy clock where Once an hour the peaceful setting would be rocked by the commotion of the mail door clanking open and closed while 10 different alarms and bells went off at once, OR, Setting up a mock mail station were participants could write brief letters to send via the sculpture, only to find out that it is a giant shredder, OR, by leaving a giant 8ft tall baseball bat next to it see if someone could figure out how to use it, on it, the mailbox... |

Ray C. Freeman III | Perception
Distortion Field I propose to construct a perspective-distorted grid of yellow string on the downhill side a section of field which heads into a shallow rise. This would appear to be a normal equally spaced grid, but would actually be foreshortened to create the illusion of greater dimension from one end and smaller dimension from the other. The positioning would create an opportunity for accidental occurrences and discoveries, leading to experimentation by the viewer, who may work in pairs to view the piece from either end and experience the effect of the perspective foreshortening... |

Kristine Eudey | Sign/Frame I am interested in creating and installing a rectangular structure, suggestive of a sign or frame in its proportions and construction. The middle portion (where the information on a sign would be located) would be blank with just the frame-like edge of the sculpture visually delineating a section of the expanse of land and sky beyond. This view would change depending on the viewers position, time of day, weather conditions, etc. Strung LED lights, powered by a solar panel secured nearby, would be affixed around the inside perimeter... |

Catherine Thompson | Burnt
Offerings "Burnt Offerings" is a collaborative work meant to be a metaphor on the process of nature. We began with a charred stump, approximately 3'x3'. Bob started the piece by preserving the wood. Catherine then embedded glass mosaic up and into the limbs; the beginning of "overgrowth" - the idea of design and image leading the viewer through the story of growth, change, and upward momentum. Bob and deby then continued the overgrowth, winding up and over the stump with rusty metal, copper tube, wire, forged copper leaves and semi-precious stones... |

Aaron Haba | Retablo Retablo is a response to the abandoned infrastructure on the anti-aircraft peak. I want to tell a story of design, use, and reclamation. The concrete pads provide a series of frames for this story to unfold. Drawing from the history of the sites' use to deploy Nike missiles, I chose to work with simple geometric shapes. These refer to boundaries, both physical and spiritual, and how over time these boundaries change or in the case of this site become obsolete... |

Barbara De Pirro | sprout I create biomorphic sculptural forms and installations subtlety expressing my ecological concerns. Designs conceived in my observations of nature, constructed reusing non-natural, indestructible materials, and then carefully placing them in the natural world where they can be investigated, contemplated then documented. The element of surprise and unexpected discovery is an integral part of this vision. The viewer meanders unassumingly through the forest, takes pause |

Pathway For COCA's "Overgrowth and Understory" exhibition I would like to create a temporary outdoor pathway, this time incorporating different types of materials for the project. This pathway, entitled Sea Change, would consist of an elongated "sand box" of wood stripping approximately 4' wide and 16' long. The wooden stripping would be used to define the edge of the piece, much as one would do when making a garden bed for planting. The rectangular box would then be filled with a bed of white sand, and topped with an overlay of light-catching tumbled glass... |
